well, things, haahaa "things" have happened...
awww... pity wit 'ems.... my sis is gone, nid nid hope everything is well :D
went to a jap place to eat on friday night, called asahi, in mt lawley, to treat ed out, heehee, twas real nice! we had salmon... omg.... we are like crazy abt jap lately.... in the past few weeks, cant remember how many, but we had gone to jaws TWICE!!! we get cravings for salmon.... yum yum... omg, im so crazy abt that! im not a HUGE fan of jap food like my sis, but boy oh boy, raw salmon is the best!!!!
so this time, i wanted to try something different, instead of the jaws in the city. we've been to matsuri, had mister samurai... errr... the one in applecross, the one on leach hwy.... and now, i wanted to treat him to one i've been to before (although i have absolutely no recollection on how the food was) to see how it is.
and it was GOOD!!! two thumbs up from me! :D of course we had the salmon.... *drools*
we had gyoza, which is just the dumplings, prawn.... mmm... salmon and avocado salad, mixed sashimi set and also LOBSTER!!! it was nice.... the sauce it was cooked in was nice and tasty with onions and garlic.... *droool* it was teppenyaki style or something like that..... mmm........
then we went to burswood to the atrium cocktail bar to meet up!
thought i should drag the guys out since we hadnt seen each other for a bit... mike didnt show! GEEZ... him and his dinners! lol
it was nice, to sit and chat, except for the dude on the piano.... grrr.. heehee...
saturday, omg, had buffet lunch for chia's 21st!!! YAY! heehee, back to burswood, at the atrium! omg.... so many people there... lotsa old folkies... heehee, there was a table behind us for an 80 y.o bday and one table behind that one for a lady's 50th bday!

it was 7 of us, which i think is a good number, so then everyone can hear each other and talk... and yeah, i didnt really know know anyone, coz all of chia's friends, but they were all really nice peeps ^__^
i did bring my digi, but i didnt really see the point in taking it out! heehee... just grab them off chia's blog! thanks chia!!!

then at night, went over to one of ed's friend's place for dinner with a whole bunch of people, and ended up watching on the big big pioneer plasma, the footy! swans vs wce! omg.... close game... shockers!!! lol
then... ended up going back to ed's and watching a movie... hotel rwanda, but didnt finish, mainly coz it was pulling on my emotional strings, and when i watch movies like that at night, doesnt make me feel good... but will finish it off another time! so ended up watching scrubs... heeheee... always a good laff!!
then on sunday, went to the city with my ma, and saw nam and es in northbridge.. heehee... were planning to eat dim sum, but it was totally packed outside everywhere so we ended up in viet hoa, mm..... nooddles were nice... then to myers, coz mum was going to shoes, but she didnt end up getting them :p walked around and went to dj's and that was abt it.
work again...

OH my poor barley.... we had to chuck our lil' 2week old seedlings, because the spores didnt grow in time that we were going to use to inoculate them with! :( i felt so sad coz i had to pull them out of the pots and chuck them in the bin!!! but then rhonda, the lady i work with, she said, well, we would've killed them with the spores anyway.... so i didnt feel as bad....
had to pot more of the barley, looked at nematodes, and OMG, it is interesting stuff!!!! it was from these soils and we drained them over the weekend, and collected them in vials, and all i can see was clear liquid... collected some, and looked under the microscope, HOLY MOLY!!! its pretty amazing.....

Nematodes are also found in or on most other types of organisms as parasites, commensals or phoretics: everything from earthworms, insects, molluscs, fish, reptiles birds, mammals to humans. In fact it is said that if the everything on the earth were to disappear except the nematodes, the outlines of everything would still be visible: the mountains, lakes and oceans, the plants and the animals would all be outlined by the nematodes living in every habitat.
Nematodes are also amongst the most diverse taxa on earth, with an estimated 500 000 to 1 000 000 species. Only about 20 000 species have been described, and the systematic literature is widely dispersed. It is hoped this key will fill some of this void.
Nematodes range in size from nearly 10 metres long to only a fraction of a millimetre. They are mostly worm-like in shape, but some are spherical, lemon-shaped, sausage-shaped and a host of other variations. In diameter, they range from a few millimetres to about 5 microns.
Although they are small, nematodes are incredibly abundant. If all the nematodes in the Murray River were combined into one huge animal, it would be over 20 metres long (see image left). Laid end-to-end they would encircle the earth’s equator. Nematodes are even more abundant in terrestrial, estuarine and marine substrates.
Nematodes impact on human economies in many ways: from loss of agricultural production, to pasture and turf damage, to invasion of forest trees, to adverse effects on the health of wild and domestic animals and humans. In addition to causing losses, there are many beneficial effects of nematodes: controlling soil nutrient cycling and controlling harmful species to name just two. The total value of these economic effects are difficult to quantify, but must be very substantial indeed if one considers that the lost production to just one crop (wheat) in just one country (Australia) is estimated at $200 million per annum. Illustrated at right is the effect of plant parasitic nematodes on a canola crop.
Because of their ubiquity and diversity, nematodes are also used in measuring the impacts of various perturbations on ecosystems, such as pollution, organic enrichment, and physical disturbance. Nematodes are intimately involved in many parts of the soil ecosystem, so they can be used as indicators of sustainability for soils.
It is hoped that this identification system will assist both those studying nematodes as part of other problems, as well as those studying them in their own right.
